An imu is a traditional Hawaiian underground oven used for cooking, especially pua‘a (pig) for lū‘au celebrations. Each lūʻau day before the sun rises, the imu is prepared by our cultural practitioner. In the evening, the traditional unveiling of the imu and removal of the puaʻa happens at the Aloha Kai Lūʻau showcasing this important local tradition.
